Vill\u00e1ny in the limelight<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Portugieser du Monde, Franc du Monde, Wine Travel Awards<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vill\u00e1ny has always been “the top wine region” in many\naspects: the southernmost wine region of Hungary with the most sunny hours, the\nmost winemakers with the prestigious title “Winemaker of the Year”\nand the most functioning wine cellars compared to the number of inhabitants. It\nis also one of the favourite destinations of wine travellers: the season begins\nin January with Vince Day vineyard tours, at summer Vill\u00e1ny offers a marathon\nwith rose wine (dressed in pink), autumn is famous for the Red Wine Festival\nand much more. However, in the next months Vill\u00e1ny also becomes the focus of\nthe wine trade as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Portugieser du Monde, Franc du Monde, Wine Travel Awards \u2013 what do\nthe three have in common? All of them are international, are related to Vill\u00e1ny\nand take place in spring \/ early summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Portugieser du Monde \u2013 even the smallest one counts <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only few international wine contests are restricted to one grape\nvariety and if they do so, they concentrate on a popular international variety\nlike Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. However Vill\u00e1ny places emphasis on preserving\nancient indigenous<\/strong> varieties including Portugieser, which is grown\nalmost only in the Vill\u00e1ny wine region within Hungary. They organize the\ninternational Portugieser contest annually, this April the 8th edition<\/strong>\nawaits samples from the neighbouring countries as well. The jury consists of renowned\nwine experts<\/strong> from several countries. Winemakers can send young, easy\ndrinking Portugieser wines, aged Portuguiser specialities, ros\u00e9, white or\nsparkling wines made of Portuguiser or Portuguiser based blends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the contest consumers<\/strong> will have a chance to taste a\nwide range of Portuguiser wines in the city of P\u00e9cs, not far from Vill\u00e1ny. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Franc du Monde \u2013 \u00a0the crown jewel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the one and only Portuguiser contest of the world, Vill\u00e1ny\nannounces the first and only<\/strong> Cabernet Franc international wine contest! The\norganizers had planned to launch the competition in 2020, however pandemic\nchanged plans. Therefore after a long preparation finally this June will see\nthe first edition at the Castle of Sikl\u00f3s,<\/strong> an astonishing medieval\nfortress within Vill\u00e1ny wine region. Late Michael Broadbent<\/strong> once\ncommented “Cabernet Franc has found its natural home<\/strong> in\nVill\u00e1ny”<\/em> and ever since Vill\u00e1ny wine producers have been creating fine\nexamples of the variety and other Hungarian wine regions followed suit. The\ninternational jury of renowned wine experts awaits samples from all of the\nCabernet Franc wine regions of the world<\/strong> from California to New Zealand,\nfrom Loire to Tuscany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the contest Vill\u00e1ny hosts a conference<\/strong> for trade\nmembers and advanced wine connoisseurs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
